The village
Nganyoi village overlooks Lake Nakuru National Park in Kenya's Rift Valley, just a few hours drive from Nairobi. The park is world famous for flamingos and a large population of white and black rhinos.
It’s an idyllic setting but life is hard for the families who live there. While a handful of people find work in the park, many people are forced to move to the local town, or even further afield, to find work. Women often have a huge workload – caring for the family and farming a small plot of land.
The villages have no electricity or water supply, and the nearest water source is a dirty river – four to five hours walk down rough dirt tracks.
The vilager's partnership with Rainworks gives them a clean and accessible supply of water. This means the family are healthier and because the tanks are installed outside people's homes, the women have more time to work on the farm and look after their children.
Support Rainworks and help improve the health of the people of Nganyoi.
